A dental crown is basically a small, custom-made cap that fits over your natural tooth. It restores your tooth’s strength and protects it from further damage. Whether your tooth is cracked, severely decayed, or has had a root canal, a crown can bring it back to full function and give you confidence when you smile again.
Our crowns are crafted from strong, tooth-colored materials that blend naturally with your smile. Most people can’t even tell which tooth has the crown – it looks completely natural.
If dental visits make you nervous, you’re not alone. We offer sedation dentistry in partnership with Elite Anesthesia, so a licensed nurse anesthetist can keep you completely comfortable throughout your appointment. At Taylorsville Implant Center, we use dental crowns to help rebuild teeth so they look, feel, and work just like they should.
We believe quality dental care shouldn’t come with surprises. At Taylorsville Implant Center, the cost of a dental crown in Salt Lake City starts at $1,300.
Most insurance plans will contribute to that cost, and we will work directly with your provider to help you get maximum reimbursement. We also work with CareCredit®, a third-party lender offering low-interest and interest-free credit lines. Our friendly team is here to assist with billing and insurance questions, and will help you maximize your coverage.
While a traditional crown can reinforce the structure of an existing damaged tooth, Dr. Hernandez-Gil also offers implant-supported crowns to completely replace a missing tooth.
A dental implant is an artificial tooth root made of titanium. Once Dr. Hernandez-Gil places an implant, it integrates with the bone tissue and becomes part of your anatomy. Then, a custom crown can be placed to fill the gap in your smile.
Dr. Hernandez-Gil specializes in dental implants and can perform every step of your surgery at our Salt Lake City office. When cared for properly, implant-supported crowns can be a long-lasting solution — the crown can last for 10-15 years, and the implant could last the rest of your life. Treatment for a single tooth starts at $4,500.
The crown process takes at least two appointments. During these appointments, Dr. Hernandez-Gil will prepare your tooth and place your final restoration.
You will first meet with Dr. Hernandez-Gil at our Salt Lake City dental clinic, where he will inquire about your goals and examine your teeth. If you are a good candidate for a dental crown, you can move forward with treatment.
Once you are comfortable, Dr. Hernandez-Gil will remove damaged or decayed tissue from your tooth and reshape it to accommodate your crown. It’s a comfortable procedure, and if you’re a little anxious, we can help you relax with sedation.
We’ll take some impressions (basically, a mold of your teeth) so the lab can design your crown to match your bite and the color of your natural teeth. Dr. Hernandez-Gil will take impressions of your dental arch. These impressions will be used to create your crown.
Before you leave, Dr. Hernandez-Gil will place a temporary crown to protect your tooth so that your tooth stays protected while the permanent one is being made.
Your impressions are then sent off to a dental lab we trust – a team that’s great at crafting lifelike, durable crowns. When your new one comes back, we’ll have you in for a second visit.
Once we’ve received your final restoration, you can return to our clinic. Dr. Hernandez-Gil will remove your temporary crown, check the fit of your final restoration with opposing teeth, and ensure it looks natural before securing it in place with dental cement.
If you have a damaged, decayed, or root canal-treated tooth, you may need a crown. Dr. Hernandez-Gil will evaluate your case and recommend a traditional crown or a better alternative like a bridge or implant-supported crown.
Treat it like a natural tooth - brush twice daily, floss once a day, use mouthwash as needed, and avoid hard or sticky foods. Don’t use your teeth as tools. With proper care, your crown can last 10–15 years or longer.
It depends on your needs. Porcelain or zirconia offers a natural look, while gold crowns are more durable. Dr. Hernandez-Gil will help you choose the best option based on your goals and preferences.
No, Dr. Hernandez-Gil prioritizes quality over speed. While same-day crowns may compromise durability, he provides a temporary crown during your visit, ensuring comfort and function until your custom, long-lasting crown is ready.
A single dental crown typically costs $1,300. Most insurance plans help cover part of that cost, and we’ll work directly with your provider to ensure you receive the maximum reimbursement available.
